Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif.--Georgetown University used a 15-2 spurt midway in the second half to pull away for a 60-41 victory over North Dakota State University in the opening round of the 12th annual Loyola Marymount Ayres Hotels Thanksgiving Tournament played Friday, Nov. 28, at the Gerst Pavillion.
North Dakota State (1-3) is scheduled to play Idaho State (2-4) at 3 p.m. (Central) Saturday, Nov. 29 in the consolation game. The host Lions defeated Idaho State 69-55 in Friday's first game. Georgetown (5-0) and host LMU (4-1) play in the 5 o'clock championship game.
Meredith Cox hit a trio of three-pointers during the four minute stretch that extended a 28-23 lead to 43-25 with nine minutes remaining. Cox was one of 11 different Hoyas to score during the contest. Shanice Fuller led Georgetown with 12 points.
Abby Plucker scored 14 of 20 points in the second half to lead North Dakota State and match a career-high.
Plucker hit a three-pointer with 13:04 left in the first half to put the NDSU ahead 12-9. However, the Bison went scoreless for a little over seven minutes until Jill Zaruba sank a pair of free throws with 5:47 left in the first half. Katie Birkel hit one of two free tosses at the 4:53 mark.
Georgetown was able to put together a 13-3 run to take a 22-15 halftime as North Dakota State went without a field goal for the remainder of the opening period. The Bison ran into early foul trouble, but were able to outrebound the Hoyas 42-36 led by Inger Hodgson's career-high seven rebounds.
NDSU also forced 13 turnovers in the first half as Hodgson tied a career-high with three first half steals. The Bison had 22 turnover overall compared to 15 for the Hoyas
North Dakota State shot 17.2 percent from the field in the first half and 27.3 percent overall compared to 36 percent for Georgetown.
