Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.--Nicole James scored 17 points to lead a trio in double figures as IUPUI led wire-to-wire in a 59-54 win over North Dakota State in a Summit League women's basketball game played at The Jungle on Monday, Jan. 14. The Bison have lost three of the last four games.
North Dakota State (2-4 Summit, 7-9) is scheduled to host UMKC (1-4 Summit, 8-8) at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, in the Bison Sports Arena. UMKC defeated Southern Utah 80-48 on Jan. 12.
Lisa Bue led the Bison with a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds, while Brenda Slyt added 11 points. Bue is the only North Dakota State player to score in double-figures in all 16 games this season.
The Bison trailed 29-19 at halftime after shooting a season-low 20 percent from the field. It was only the third time NDSU trailed at the intermission in 16 games this season.
James received help from 6-foot-5 sophomore Julia Whitted, who netted 10 of her 16 points the first half and Christina Cunningham, who had nine of her 11 points in the second half. Whitted finished with seven blocked shots.
The Jaguars (2-4 Summit, 6-11) hit 6 of 8 free throws in the game's final one minutes, 12 seconds. Cunningham made 4 of 6 and James hit a pair to keep the Bison at a distance. IUPUI made 12 of 22 free throws overall for 54.5 percent, while NDSU was 8 of 14 for 57.1 percent.
North Dakota State, which trailed by as many as 12 points in the second half, could only cut the deficit to five on an Emily Moran short jumper in the final seconds.
IUPUI made 40.7 percent from the field compared to 33.3 percent for the Bison. The Jaguars outrebounded NDSU 42-37 led by Jernisha Cann's game-high 11 boards, while Whitted had eight.
