Voelker Leads Oral Roberts to Overtime Win over North Dakota State 73-68

TULSA, Okla.-- Janae Voelker hit a three-pointer to force the game into overtime and scored six points in the extra session as Oral Roberts University rallied for a 73-68 win over visiting North Dakota State in a Summit League women's basketball game played Monday, Dec. 10, before a crowd of 1,746 in the Mabee Center.

The Tulsa area was hit by an ice storm that caused a power outage which affected over 200,000 residents in the city and countless others around the region.

North Dakota State (3-5, 1-1 Summit League) is scheduled to host Valley City State (5-6, 0-1 Dakota Athletic Conference) at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in the Bison Sports Arena.

Voelker, who finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds, hit the three-pointer with 23-seconds left. A three-point attempt by North Dakota State in the final seconds was off the mark.

The Golden Eagles fought back from a nine-point deficit in the game's final five minutes.

Lisa Bue hit a layup with 4:58 left on a pass from Abby Plucker that gave North Dakota State a 54-45 lead. Bue and Brenda Slyt provided the offense to put the Bison ahead.

Bue scored 15 points in the second half and added nine rebounds. Plucker had eight points and eight rebounds off the bench.

The Bison again received a spark offensively in the second half from Slyt, who scored 15 of her 21 points in the final period. She grabbed a career and team-high 10 rebounds to complete the "double-double".

Voelker scored six of ORU's first nine points in the overtime and came up with a steal that led to another bucket that put the Golden Eagles ahead 69-62. Oral Roberts hit 6 of 8 free throws in the OT to keep NDSU at a distance.

North Dakota State trailed by as many as seven points early and 18-10 with 12:17 left in the first half as Jenny Hardin scored off a Rachel Watman pass. Hardin finished with a team-high 23 points and 10 rebounds.

However, the Golden Eagles went scoreless for over 11-1/2 minutes. The Bison went on a 17-0 run.

Amanda Girodat's three-pointer gave NDSU its first lead, at 19-18, since the start of the game. The Bison extended the advantage to 27-18 with 1:04 on a pair of Bue free throws and led 27-23 at halftime. North Dakota State has led at halftime in seven of eight games this season.

Oral Roberts outrebounded North Dakota State 47-43. Both teams committed 17 turnovers. NDSU shot 48.1 percent from the field in the second half and 38.9 percent overall compared to 40.6 percent for ORU. The Bison hit 9 of 14 from the free throw line for 64.3 percent, while the Golden Eagles connected on 16 of 27 for 59.3 percent including 11 of 15 in the second half.
