Box Score MOSCOW, Idaho--Annika Walseth scored 11 of her career-high 15 points in the first half and teammate Brenda Slyt netted 15 of her team-high 18 in the second as North Dakota State defeated the University of Idaho 70-58 in a women's college basketball game played Saturday, Dec. 1, before 327 in the Cowan Spectrum.
North Dakota State (2-4) snapped a brief three-game losing streak with the win. Idaho (0-7) has lost eight in a row dating back to last season.
The Bison had to shake off a cold shooting second half and was held to only one field goal for the first 11-1/2 minutes of the final period. NDSU hit only 30.8 percent in the second half and 39.6 percent overall.
Idaho chipped away from a 36-23 halftime deficit to pull to within 42-40 on a Rachele Kloke with 11:23 left.
However, Slyt matched that with a three-pointer of her own. It started a 12-3 run by the Bison over the next three minutes. Slyt scored all but two points during the run. She scored easy layups off of passes from Amanda Girodat and Inger Hodgson, and also nailed a pair of free throws.
The Vandals could only come to within nine points the rest of the game.
NDSU's biggest lead was 16 points, the last coming at 68-52 with 2:18 left on an Emily Moran three-pointer.
Walseth sparked the run with her alert play and tallied 11 of her career-high total in the first half. Her previous career best was 11 points against BYU (2-14-05) while at Colorado State. Walseth hit 7 of 7 from the foul line as the Bison hit 23 of 32 from the free throw stripe for 71.9 percent compared to 15 of 24 for 62.5 percent for the Vandals.
